Laura and Bob
Bob Seegers, whose actual name is Francois, is a full-time horseman and farmer. He has a great talent for starting young horses under saddle and building up well-rounded endurance horses.
Bob's methods include Monty Roberts' join up, Pat Parelli's principles, and elements of John Lyons. Bob has a good understanding of basic dressage training and trains the horses to respond to the aids. However he always prefers to ride in a rope halter or bitless bridle. Using all of his skills plus a load of common sense, Bob can produce horses which are without vices because they are content in their work. Most importantly, his horses are athletically superior because they have been trained to use their bodies effectively.
Bob is a believer in "Nature knows best". He applies this principle to his organic farming and veld conservation. His natural farming practices include the endurance horse stud. The horses live in environmental conditions as close to natural as we can provide. Although he is a skilled farrier, Bob will no longer shoe horses. He does a barefoot trim and recommends Easyboots for those horses unable to compete barefoot.
Bob is an endurance rider of note. He has won hundred milers and captained the South African Endurance team. Many of his achievements have gone unheralded when he has built extremely good endurance horses and then sold them on. The new owners have gone on to reap the rewards of his work. Horses like Perseverance Burmese that Leanne Wels bought. Leanne and Burmese rode for the South African Junior Team in Fauresmith and Namibia. Young endurance horses like Perseverance Instinct who made an impression in the Western Cape and was exported under the name of Basic Instinct. Bob has his days full with the many young horses we have bred coming into work.
You, too, could enjoy the results of Bob's work by acquiring one of our
Perseverance horses.

Laura Seegers is Bob's wife. She is an accomplished rider and breeder of Arabian horses. Early in life, Laura developed a keen interest in the foundation bloodlines of South African Arab horses (The equivalent of the Colonial Arab horses in Australia). These horses were imported and bred to be ridden. They were sought after for their spirit and athleticism. They are fantastic genetic resources for breeding winning endurance horses. Laura plans matings generations ahead to incorporate the best bloodlines available today. Also to ensure those bloodlines are available undiluted to future generations of breeders. The unique quality of the purebred Arabian horses from the Perseverance Stud is the result of her passion.
Laura has ridden for the South African endurance team and thoroughly enjoys riding competitively. However she has the patience to give a young horse time to toughen up before asking for speed. She has a positive effect on the horses she rides and is a good partner to Bob in producing endurance horses. Once Bob has trained a young horse, Laura can take it on and make it even better.
Laura has coached many young riders and adults and introduced them to the sport of endurance riding. Many of them have chosen careers in the equestrian world. She has also put a lot into the sport by serving on ERASA Council and other committees. She is an ERASA ridemaster and an FEI judge and also Chairman of the ERASA Barefoot Group which mentors endurance riders wanting to take their horses barefoot.
Writing is another of her interests. Laura translates Afrikaans novels into English to make them accessible to the international market. Heart of the Hunter and Devil's Peak by Deon Meyer are two of her translations. Laura is also writing her own works: a series of children's books and a natural horsecare manual.

Bob and Laura have a vast fund of experience. They have studied and read widely to improve that knowledge. They are able to give riders a complete education in endurance riding and conditioning of the endurance horse. They can show you how to raise horses in an eco-friendly way.
